This year, we’ve introduced a refreshed set of core values for Yewdale. They were developed to better reflect who the company is today, and the standards the team wants to uphold as the business continues to grow.
But updating core values is only the beginning. The real work lies in understanding them, embracing them, and making sure they shape decisions.
So, rather than quietly returning to routine after the holidays, the Yewdale team launched the year with an off-site day focused on bringing the new values to life. The day’s purpose extended beyond just discussing them. It was about actively exploring what they look like in action – how teams can collaborate more effectively, communicate with greater clarity, and deliver stronger support to customers.
A space to think
Implementing new values properly requires more than a meeting room and a few spare minutes between tasks. It needs space – both mental and physical – to think, talk, reflect, and better understand how those values translate into real behaviours. The off-site day provided exactly that.
Gathering everyone together gave teams a rare chance to step away from day-to-day demands and concentrate on what truly unites them. It was an opportunity to explore how the new values connect to each department, and how Yewdale’s shared direction will shape progress throughout 2026.
A fresh start
The off-site day was held on January 2nd at Hylands House in Chelmsford – a Grade II listed neo-classical villa surrounded by parkland.
At a time when many businesses were slowly navigating the first official workday of the year, the Yewdale team stepped into 2026 with a bang! The relaxed setting made it easier to step out of everyday roles, see the bigger picture, and approach discussions with fresh clarity.
Our day
Once settled in, the team was able to dive immediately into meaningful conversations. Without the usual distractions, people could openly discuss how Yewdale is moving forward.
Office-based staff and warehouse operatives were able to sit together and discuss ways to bring their teams together seamlessly.
The off-site day also created space for ideas that rarely get airtime during the everyday hustle and bustle of operation. This led to a whole host of practical suggestions.
The day’s biggest benefits were clear: sharing real experiences with each other enabled specific, actionable ideas and insights that could directly improve work processes and customer experience.
Why do we do it?
Why are off-site days so important to us here at Yewdale? Because of you.
Although the off-site day was internal, its impact is directly customer-focused. A more aligned, better-connected team creates a smoother experience for every customer who works with us.
Our off-site day is intended to support:
1. Clearer, faster communication
When departments understand each other’s pressures and processes, customers receive clearer, faster answers.
2. More consistent service
Improved collaboration between different departments gives customers a better experience from start to finish.
3. Stronger problem-solving
Customers benefit when we’re willing to own up to mistakes, identify issues, communicate them openly, and resolve them quickly.
4. Better decision-making
When everyone works from the same values and towards the same shared goals, decisions can be made faster and more confidently, reducing delays.
5. Practical improvements
The actionable improvements developed at the off-site day will help to enhance service for every customer.
Looking ahead as one team
Our discussions were grounded in a deeper understanding of each other. After discussing pressures, challenges, and improvements, everyone was in a position to approach future goals with a shared mindset and clearer expectations.
Moving forward with purpose
The off-site day at Hylands House wasn’t a pause – it was a catalyst for doing things better.
Customers may never experience the off-site firsthand, but they’ll notice the difference when they work with us: faster updates, easier processes, clearer answers, and a team united by a common purpose.
